Geraldine M. Hefel, 73, of 217 Main St., North Buena Vista, passed away at 6:10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

Visitation was Tuesday at Behr Funeral Home, Dubuque, and one hour before services at the church hall. Funeral services were Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in North Buena Vista.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Geraldine was born on Aug. 27, 1936, in North Buena Vista to Aloysius and Evelyn (Felder) Riniker. Gerry was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School in North Buena Vista. She married Thomas L. Hefel on Sept. 29, 1956, at the Immaculate Conception Church in North Buena Vista. He preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2007.

Gerry was formerly employed as a bartender at the Eagles Club and the Country Club in Guttenberg. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish and Rosary Society and a member of the Guttenberg Eagles Club. Gerry enjoyed cooking and baking, playing the slot machines and gambling. Gerry was called “the sweetest lady in Buenie.” Her beautiful smile will be missed around Buenie. Gerry’s greatest joy was to be with her family and granddaughter, Alyssa Jo.

Survivors include four children, Keith T. Hefel, North Buena Vista, Barbara A. Hefel (Steve Ruden), Dubuque, Clyde L. (Lisa) Hefel, and their daughter, Alyssa Jo, North Buena Vista, Alvin A. Hefel (Cathe Haigh) North Buena Vista; five siblings, Jeanette Ludovissy, North Buena Vista, LaVonne (Bob) Coyle, Epworth, Joanne Hefel, North Buena Vista, Madonna (Clarence) Ludovissy, North Buena Vista, Walter Frank Riniker, Dickeyville, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Joan Riniker, Dubuque; nieces and nephews.

Gerry was preceded in death by, one son, Arnold K. Hefel; one sister and her husband, Ivanelle (Celestine) Ludovissy; one brother, Aloysius “Junior” Riniker; one sister-in-law, Judy Riniker; two brothers-in-law, Micky Hefel and Merle Freiburger.
