Hildegard Charlotte Koth, 86, Monona, Iowa, died Saturday, November 21, 2009, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI, following a brief illness. Hildegard was born on July 11, 1923, at Garnavillo, Iowa, to Herman E. and Charlotte (Ihde) Weiss. She was baptized on September 9, 1923, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa, by the Rev. William Braun and confirmed at Peace Evangelical Church in Elkader, Iowa, by the Rev. Paul Kieterer on Palm Sunday of 1937. Hildegard graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1941.
Hildegard was united in marriage to Foster Vern Koth on July 8, 1941, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. One daughter, Karen, was born to this union on July 20, 1942. Hildegard and Foster worked for the Amana Colonies and the A.L. Killian Dairy Farm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They farmed east of Farmersburg, Iowa, and then purchased a farm west of Monona, Iowa. They continued farming for thirty-five years until retiring to Monona, Iowa.
Hildegard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa, St. Paul WELCA and served on the church council. She was active in county politics for many years, the Monona Commercial Club and served in many local community events.Hildegard was a devoted wife and homemaker. She enjoyed her family and friends, dancing, playing cards, boating, fishing and waitressing.
Survivors include her husband, Foster Koth, Monona; one daughter, Karen (Gary) Prunkard, Fairview, OH; grandchildren, Shawn Cordes, Todd (Cindy) Cordes, Shelley Hinkle; great-grandchildren, Renee Slaughter, Joshua Cordes, Angela Hinkle, Thomas Foster Cordes; great-great-grandchild, Auron Slaughter; sister-in-law, Emma Lee Weiss as well as nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.
Hildegard was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother, Herbert Weiss; two other brothers, Robert and Waldemar Weiss and an infant son and daughter.
