Neva J. Fischer, 71, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, was embraced in the arms of her heavenly father on Monday, November 16, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following the diagnosis of cancer.

Mass of Resurrection was held 10 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Strawberry Point. The Rev. Paul Peters was celebrant.

The casket bearers were Zachary Fischer, Joshua Fischer, Adam Fischer, Nicholas Moine, Garett Kuehl, and Christopher Lough.

Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.

Visitation was held 3-8 p.m. Thursday, November 19, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Strawberry Point. Scripture services were held 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church.

On November 19, 1937, Albert C. and Myrtle (Hansen) Raymond were given the gift of their daughter in Manchester. Neva attended and graduated from Manchester High School.

Neva was united in marriage to Lyle H. Fischer on June 30, 1958, her life-long partner of 51 years. To this union four children were born.

Neva loved life, reading anything, writing especially, “This & That” and “The Link”, the ocean, ACCW, plants, nature, photography, her faith and constant learning. She was active in many groups and organizations.

Her job as wife and mother was her greatest accomplishments, but also enjoyed her work as nurses aide, office jobs, and a writer.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle Fischer of Strawberry Point; her four children, Jean (Dave) Kuehl of Jefferson; Kevin (Becky) Fischer of Cleveland, Missouri, Greg Fischer of South Amana, and Valerie (Willie) Lough of Garnavillo; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Neva was preceded in death by her parents.
