Funeral services for Leonard Leo Moore were held Sunday, March 12, 1989 at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader. The 2 p.m. services were officiated by Rev. Ernest Thompson. Muehlethaler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Leonard Leo Moore, the eldest son of Emil and Esther (Frieden) Moore, was born March 21, 1916. He died March 9, 1989 at his home in Marion Township, Clayton County, Iowa.

On February 7, 1941 he married Bernita Larson. They had one son, Lennis.

Leonard was a baptized member of the Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader. He was an active member of the congregation and served on several church committees. He was educated in country school, graduating from the 8th grade. He was engaged in farming his entire life and remained on the same farm since February of 1939.

He had served as Marion Township Assessor. He attended the Old Threshers reunion in Mount Pleasant, IA for the past 10 years where he received one of the "Old Thresher of the Year" awards in 1983. Leonard and his wife Bernita are members of the Old Threshers foundation.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Leo, Werner and William.

He is survived by his wife, Bernita; a son Lennis (Sandy) Moore; 3 grandchildren, Luke, Ben and Cate, all of Mt. Pleasant; 4 brothers, Orville of Elgin, Herman of Union Bridge, MD, Robert of Fredericksburg and Clarence of Postville.

Honorary pallbearers were Sylvan Torkelson, Merlin Cook, Mervin Larson, Neal Krieg, Lucian Donlon, Paul Anderson. Pallbearers were Alan, Dale, Larry and Kent Moore, LeRoy Larson, William Cook, Kevin Torkelson and Patrick McLaughlin.
