Robert W. Dohrer, 83, of 1022 Iris Court, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steve Rosonke presiding. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.
He was born on May 24, 1925, on a farm south of Elkader, Iowa, the youngest of nine children born to Charles and Augusta Dohrer Sr.
He married Imo Mae Rima in 1950; they had four children together. He then married Mary Jane Toner in 1981; she preceded him in death in 2002.
Robert served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II, receiving two battle stars while serving in Germany.Robert worked at Caradco from 1950 to 1960. In 1960, he learned to repair office equipment and continued this profession until 2009. He owned and operated White Bear Typewriter Co. from 1986 to 2009.
Surviving are a son, Ronald W. Dohrer, of Dubuque; two daughters, Bertie (Tom) Buelow, of Dubuque, and Debra (Jay) Watson, of Mason City, Iowa; four stepchildren, Ann (Randy) Tigges, of Maquoketa, Iowa, Jane Schadler, Sue (Mike) Lindecker and Tim (LaVonne) Toner, all of Dubuque;
16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Dohrer, of Elkader; and many nieces and nephews.He also was preceded in death by a son, Bradley C. Dohrer; a granddaughter, Jennifer Elliott; five sisters; and two brothers.
A Robert W. Dohrer Memorial Fund has been established.
