OBITUARY: Mrs. Lena Lemka April 21, 1947
Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Lemka 87, were held from the Witt funeral chapel at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon to the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Burial was in the East Cemetery.
Mrs, Lemka who had been in ill health for many years and had been confined to her wheel chair for the past nine years. Several weeks ago she had the misfortune to fall and break her leg and had since been confined to her bed. She died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Hubbard, Monday evening April 21.
Lena C. Dohrer, daughter of Henry and Mary (Springer) Dohrer, was born at St. Charles, Mo. Sept. 16, 1859. She came to Clayton County with her parents in 1860 and has since been a resisdent of Elkader and vicinity.
October 4, 1881, she was married to Carl Lemka in Cox Creek township. Shortly thereafter they moved to the farm on which she died. After the death of her husband on Dec. 28, 1917, Mrs. Lemka moved to Elkader with her family where she resided until 1934 when she returned to the farm to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. George Hubbard.
Mrs. Lemka was a member of the Royal Neighbors and the Women's Guild of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. George Hubbard, Elkader and one son, Ray C. Lemka, Oak Park, ILL; also one sister, Mrs. Kathrine Dittmer, Elkader, and two brothers, Henry Dohrer, Volga and William Dohrer, Eden, S. Dak.; four grandchildren: Mary Lucille Lemka, Oak Park, ILL.; Mary Bankes, Elkader; Florence Campbell, Peoria, ILL.; Harry Hubbard and one step grandson, Robert Bankes, both of Elkader.
Preceeding her n death besides her husband, were a son Harry in 1925 and a grandson William C. Lemka who died Sept. 14 of last year.
Pallbearers were; H.L. Meyer, W.C. Dittmer, L.D. Dittmer, Louis Lemka, Milton Klink and George Behn.
