OBITUARY: MRS. AUGUST DOHRER (1910)

Mrs. August Dohrer passed away at her home in Elkader, (IA) at eleven o'clock Friday morning, Sept. 16th, aged 60 years and seven months. She had not been well for a number of years and had suffered greatly at times, although able to be about and attend to her home duties until the day before her death.

Maria Frederike Hamann was born at Schwartzenhofen, Germany, February 16th, 1850. In the spring of 1867 she came to America, and October 7th of the same year she was united in marriage to John August Dohrer, of Cox Creek township, Clayton county, to whom she has been a faithful companion for almost forty-three years. about two years ago they left the old farm where they had spent so many years, and came to Elkader to take a well earned rest.

Ten children were born to them, five of whom preceded their mother to that other shore. The aged husband and five children are left to mourn the love and companionship of the wife and mother. The children are: August and Carl of Cox Creek township; Henry of Elkader; Rudolph of St. Paul, and Mrs. Kathrine Wistrick. She also has three brothers living, one in Germany, Henry Hamann of Luana (IA), Karl Hamann of Cox Creek township and one sister, Mrs. Karoline Wagner, of Boardman township; and nine grandchildren.

In the years of her life in this county Mrs Dohrer won the love and esteem of a wide circle of friends, who grieve at her loss and sympathize with the bereaved members of her family. They say: "She was a good true woman", and what higher praise can be given, for it has been said that a good women is the noblest work of God.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the German church, Rev. Franke conducting the services, which were very largely attended. The interment was in the Eastside Cemetery.
