Fred A. Burckart 80, of Houston, Minn., and formerly of Monona, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at his home.
Fred was born in rural Monona on April 16, 1928, to Louis Adam and Ina (Sawvell) Burckart. He married Geneva Ottaway on May 25, 1948 in Elkader, Iowa. He worked as a foreman for the Milwaukee Railroad retiring after 20 years in 1987.
He is survived by his wife Geneva, his children Victoria (Michael) Ott of Houston, Minn., Pamela (Ron) Schwanke of Elgin, Iowa, Brenda (Gerald) Nagel of Viroqua, Wis., Patrick (Ann) Burckart of Waukon, Iowa, Theresa (Sidney) Horns of Luana, Iowa, Stormy (Jerry) Eglseder of Bellevue, Iowa, Chris Burckart of Waterloo, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren; his sister Lucille Bollman of Charles City, Iowa and his beloved dog “Sage”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter Diane, and two sons Michael and Donnie.
A Mass Of Christian Burial was on Monday, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah, Minn. The Rev. Joseph Pete officiated. Private family burial will take place in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Monona, Iowa at a later date. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crescent is in charge of arrangements.
