Elizabeth “Bette” Moore, 75 of McGregor, died Wednesday October 1, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien. Following her wishes there will be no services.

The Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home assisted the family.

She is survived by daughters, Suzanne ( Jed) Fritsch of LaCrosse, Sandra (Morris) Weller and Sheila (Harry) Moore both of McGregor; two sons, Robert Moore of Austin, Texas, Daniel (Sara) Moore of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Annabelle Gilbertson of Dubuque, Iowa, Theresa (Ronald) Bass of Gotham; four brothers, David (Donna) Duve of Dubuque, Iowa, Joseph (Carol) Duve of Thompson Falls, Mont., Norman (Rita) Duve and Harvey (Diane) Duve both of Dubuque, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and her fox terrier Earl the Bandit.

Elizabeth Mathilda was born April 28, 1933, in Dubuque, Iowa to Engelbert and Beatrice (Loeffelholz) Duve. She married Robert “Bob” Moore on March 31, 1951. They lived in the Chicago, Ill. area until returning to Iowa in 1966. Bette worked at the Quaker Oats Test Kitchen in Chicago, Mar-Mac Schools, Memorial Hospital, Clayton County Homemakers and the Milwaukee Railroad.

Her trips to town always included a stop at the McGregor Public Library, the CAP office and the Boat.

She loved reading, cooking, gardening, rummaging, creating and giving. Her quilts, wall hangings, crocheted hats and scarves, jewelry trees, and many other handmade items will be treasured. Bette’s stories, sense of humor, and love will be remembered and greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by a brother John Duve, a sister Susan Duve, MD, and her husband Robert.
