GUTTENBERG, Iowa -- Adele C. Block, of Guttenberg, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Guttenberg Care Center, Guttenberg, after a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Guttenberg. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 207 S. First, Guttenberg. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.

She was born on Dec. 27, 1934, in Guttenberg, daughter of Lawrence and Adeline (Kann) Hoeger. She attended St. Mary's School and graduated with honors in 1953.

She married Gerald (Red) Block on Jan. 29, 1955.

Adele was a homemaker for many years but she also worked as a telephone operator in Charles City. She worked for Muters for 12 years, and she was a dispatcher for the police department in Guttenberg.

She was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of the St. Mary's Choir for 20 years.

Adele loved music and dancing to the big bands.

Surviving are her husband, Gerald "Red" Block; two sisters, Germaine Hoeger, of Guttenberg, and Arlene Handke, of Waukon; a brother, LaVern (Mary Ann) Hoeger, of Guttenberg; as well as many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Merlin Hoeger.
