OBITUARY: (1950, Moritz Dies In Auto Accident)
Funeral services for Homer Moritz, 29, of Elkader (IA), who was fatally injured in an auto accident at Fayette, Friday night Jan 27, were held Tuesday afternoon from Witt Funeral Home at 1:30 o'clock to Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkader with Rev. Kitterer officiating.
Burial was in the cemetery at Clayton Center.
The accident occurred at 8:30 0'clock in the evening on a curve three-fourths of a mile north of Fayette on Highway 150. Sheriff Fred House, who investigated reported that Moritz's car apparently hit an icy spot on a curve and skidded out of control into the the wing of a cement bridge. The impact threw Moritz from the car and down an embankment.
House said the car was beyond repair.
He was found by James McCarren of Fayette, a passing motorist. He was taken to a Fayette physician's office, where he died soon after arrival.
Dr. J. R. Wood of Wadena, Fayette County Coroner said Moritz died of a fractured skull.
He was employed as a truck driver by the Capitol Tobacco Company in West Union. Last year he managed the Monona Hatchery for R. L. Grove.
He is survived by his wife, three children, David, 8, Paul, 6, and Mary, 4; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Moritz of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Alan of Cedar Rapids; two sistters, Mrs. Malin Schultz of Luana and Mrs. Ross Powell, who is in Berlin, Germany, with her husband, a major in the Army.
