OBITUARY (1953, Rites held at Elkader, Iowa)

Funeral services for Alan William Moritz, 31, were held at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkader, Monday afternoon, Dec. 21, at 2 o'clock with Rev. Kitterer officiating.

Burial was at Clayton Center, Masonic funeral services were held Sunday evening at the Witt Funeral Chapel.

Alan died at Waterloo following a car accident Dec. 18. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Moritz of Elkader and was born July 3, 1922 at Luana (IA).

On March 12, 1943, he was married to Jean Brown of Garber,at Des Moines. While living in Elkader, Alan was employed by the State Bond and Mortgage Company. They then lived in Cedar Rapids and Cedar Falls and moved to Waterloo about six months ago, where he was associated with Investors Diversified Service, Inc. of Waterloo.

He also lived in Luana for several years,where he operated a tavern.

He was a member of Elkader Lodge 72, A.F. and A.M., the Iowa Consistory of Cedar Rapids, Orient of Iowa, the Elks Club and El Kahir Shrine.

Surviving are his wife Jean; children, Neil, Steven and Linda; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Moritz; two sisters, Mrs. Ross Powell of Park Forest, Ill, Mrs. Malin Schultz of Luana; his grandmothers, Mrs. Amelia Moritz of West Union and Mrs. Harriet Thum of Minneapolis, Minn.

One brother, Homer preceded him in death in January, 1950.

Pallbearers were Eldon Kruse, George Schmidt, Dale Tieden, Adolph Elvers, Russell Huggins and Eller Jensen.
