Marquette, IA — Richard Paul Dohse, 61, died Monday, January 26, 2009, at his home in Marquette following a brief battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 41 years, Diane (Hedeman) Dohse; his son, Christian Dohse and two daughters, Ann Dohse and Laura Dohse; three brothers, Louis Dohse, Wayne Dohse, and Paul Dohse; two grandchildren Marc Dohse and Brett Dohse; and many close friends.
Born, January 8th, 1948, and raised in Prairie Du Chien, WI, Richard was the son of Carl and Frances Dohse (Goite). Richard was a lifelong resident of Marquette and enjoyed the many benefits of living in such a small, but personable, river town.
In his early years, Richard graduated from the prestigious Campion College Preparatory School. He worked to pay his way through school and graduated with many academic achievements.
After his graduation in 1966, he met his wife, Diane Hedeman, at a local dance in the town of Osborne, IA, and soon married in 1967 at the Saint Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Prairie Du Chien.
In 1968, Richard seized the opportunity to join the Swiss Valley Farms Company located in Luana, IA. Throughout his career, he was often recognized and honored for his dedication to the company and his hard work as a Plant Supervisor for their waste water treatment facility.
Richard enjoyed the outdoors and often spent his leisure time golfing, fishing, gardening, or taking a relaxing cruise on the Mississippi River with his family and friends. These were all great times in his life and represent how special Richard was to us all.
There was nothing more important to Richard than family and friendship. He often said that his greatest moments in life were being married to his wife, raising his three children, growing up with his brothers, and spending time with his close friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and listen to those in need. His advice was always well received and respected by those that knew him. Richard was a shining example of personal strength and family values.
Although he will always live on in our minds and hearts, he will be deeply missed by all.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien, WI. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor, IA. Friends may call on Friday, January 30, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the funeral home.

Still Missing You

They say there is a reason, they say that time will heal,
But neither time nor reason will change the way we feel.
For no one knows the heartache that lies behind our smiles,
No one knows how many times we have broken down and cried.
We want to tell you something so there won't be any doubt,
You're so wonderful to think of but so hard to be without.
We cannot bring the old days back, when we were all together.
The family chain is broken now, but memories live forever.
