Marvin Kurdelmeyer Funeral Rites Held

Funeral services for Marvin Julius John Kurdelmeyer, 52, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran church with Rec. R. C. Schlueter officiating. Burial was in the church's cemetery.

Mr. Kurdelmeyer died Saturday morning, March 12, at 11:25 o'clock at University Hospitals in Iowa City. He was taken there that morning from Prairie du Chien General Hospital, where he had been a patient since March 2. He had been in failing health for the last three years.

He was born a son of Fred and Elizabeth, nee Ihde, Kurdelmeyer in Monona, July 6, 1907. He was baptized by Rev. O. Wappler in Monona, July 27, 1907. He was confirmed at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran church in Monona by Rev. A. Daugs, Sept. 4, 1921.

He lived on a farm all of his life and the last 12 years on the Kurdelmeyer farm south of Monona.

He was a member of the choir of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran church for many years. He was also a member of the Brotherhood and served as church councilman.

He was keenly interest in music. When he was 18 years old he played with the Carpenter orchestra of Cresco, his instrument being the saxophone. Later he and his brother, William, and sister, Greta, formed the Mississippi Night Hawks orchestra, which they continued for 18 years. The orchestra was known throughout northeast Iowa. They also provided a radio program over station WPRE at Prairie du Chien.

Preceding him in death was his mother, who died April 3, 1956.

Surviving are his father, two sisters, Mrs. Dayton (Lanora) Scherer and Greta of Monona; one brother, Willis of Monona; one niece, Mrs. Betty Tweitmeier of Duluth, Minn.; and two nephews, Dayton Scherer, Jr., of Denver, Colo., and Eugene Scherer of Williston, N.D.

Pallbearers were Willis Lamker, LaVerne Garms, Edgar Ziegler, Kenneth Thompson, Eugene Miller, and Otmar Bruns.

Eldo Kurdelmeier and Lyle Kurdelmeier of Oelwein attended the funeral of their cousin, Marvin Kurdelmeier, last Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona.
