Mrs. Lottie Kurth Passes Away
Mrs. Lottie M. Kurth, nee Henkes, was born May 3, 1892, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Henkes, in Wagner Township, Clayton County, where she spent her younger life attending the Gooding school & the Gooding church.
On Nov. 29, 1911 she was united in marriage to Joseph W. Russell. To this union were born two sons, Lloyd & Glenn. They farmed in the Farmersburg & St Olaf vicinities until 1933 when they moved to Clermont, where shortly after Mr. Russell was critically injured in an automobile accident.
In 1937 Lottie moved to Mason City with her son, Glenn. In 1945 she was married to Fred Kurth. They continued to live in Mason City where Mr. Kurth was employed until the time of his death in 1957. Lottie remained in Mason City until 1968 when she returned to Monona where she had made her home despite failing health.
On May 3rd, she celebrated her 80th birthday with a number of relatives & friends. On Fri., May 26th she became ill and was takent to Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, where she passed away about 12:30 p.m. Tues., May 30th.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, five sisters, one brother, and one step-son.
She leaves to mourn her passing her two sons: Lloyd of Monona and Glenn of San Jose, Calif.; one granddaughter, Donna Rae of Los Angeles, Calif., one brother, Howard of Seneca, Wis., a sister-in-law, Mrs. Louise Henkes of Monona, two step-sons, Dale Kurth of Farmersburg and Virgil Kurth of Monona; a step-daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Irene) Dorcas of Visalia, Calif., thirteen step-grandchildren, several nieces & nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thurs., June 1 at 1:30 p.m. in Pilgrim United Methodist Church in Monona. Rev. Curtis Webster officiated.
Pallbearers were Larry Kurth, Stanley Krambeer, Dale Henkes, Eldon Kurth, Jr., Donald Kurth and Morris Henkes.
Burial was in the Gooding Cemetery, S.W. Monona.
