Eldon Freddie Howard Kurth was born August 27, 1911 in Wagner Township, the son of Fred and Alma (nee Henkes) Kurth. He was baptized November 29, 1911 at the Gooding Church in Wagner Township and was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona.

On February 11, 1931 he was united in marriage with Ella Koopmann at Evangelical Lutheran Church at Elkader. They lived in Wagner township where Mr. Kurth worked for farmers and hauled cream to Luana, then in Farmersburg for several years, moving to the James Matthews farm in 1943 where they began farming. He lived on the Elmer Kurth farm and in 1955 moved to a farm near Gunder where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. He was vice president of the Gunder Cheese factory and had served as its president for many years. He had also served as president of the Fayette-Clayton Quality Dairy Improvement Association and was a member of the Clayton County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Kurth had submitted to surgery August 17 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and seemed to be improving, when his condition took a turn for the worse and he passed away Tuesday, August 22 at 3:30 a.m. He had reached the age of 55 years, 11 months and 26 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Ella, seven daughters: Dorothy, Mrs. Harold Peterson of Farmersburg; ElDonna, Mrs. Lyle Looby of Luana; Gale, Mrs. John Bissell of Farmersburg; Marlene, Mrs. Roland Doerring of Garnavillo; LaVon, Mrs. Walter German, Jr. of Elgin; Elaine, Mrs. James Doerring of Luana and Marilyn, Mrs. Herbert Hackett of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; one son, Eldon, Jr. at home; his step-mother, Mrs. Fred Kurth of Mason City; one sister, Mrs. Lawrence Dorcas of Norco, California; two brothers, Dale and Virgil of Farmersburg; 30 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Last rites were held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, on Friday, August 25 at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor R. H. Steege, officiating. Burial was in the Monona cemetery.
