Cletus Alan Rose, 65, Monona died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI, following a sudden illness. Funeral Services were held Monday, October 26 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, McGregor, with Rev. David Zimmer officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, rural McGregor.
Clete was born February 10, 1944 on the family farm near Monona to C. Harold “Haley” and Dorothy (Carwick) Rose. Clete attended the Franklin #3 Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Waukon High School.
Clete was united in marriage to Elaine Eadie. He was then united in marriage to Victoria (Gohde) Hafke July 17, 1982 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod in McGregor.
In his earlier years, Clete farmed the family farm north of Monona. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, working on his cabin, gardening, bowling and playing softball and baseball. In 1981, he completed a correspondence course for upholstery and ran his upholstery business out of his home.
Clete’s passion was playing the steel guitar. He was a member of many different bands over the years, including most recently The Legends and The Red Rose Ramblers. He was a founding member of The Country Jamboree, which still takes place today. Clete loved taking trips with his wife, Vicki, and spending time with his many family members. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Rose of Monona; six children, Lynn Rose of Kasson, MN, Nadine (Daryl) Rose Hansmeier of Davenport, Kyle (Lisa) Rose of Davenport, Donald (Vikki) Hafke of Prairie du Chien, WI, Thomas (Michelle) Hafke of Monona, and Sheri Hafke of Prairie du Chien, WI; one brother, Gary (Lottie) Rose of Kieler, WI; and 14 grandchildren.
Clete was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Brett Hafke and Christopher Cannon-Runde.Casketbearers were Tom Rose, Scott Rose, Jody Rose, Ray Rose, Bill Rose and Dale Sweet. Leonard Funeral Home in Monona was in charge of arrangements.
