SAMUEL J. LITTLE
On Sunday, August 19th our community was shocked on learning that a serious auto accident had occurred on the McGregor road at about 2:30 o’clock in the afternoon. One of the men seriously injured was Samuel J. Little, of Farmersburg, Iowa.
He was taken to the Moran hospital, at Elkader, where he passed away the same evening at 8:45 o’clock, at the age of 50 years, four months and 14 days.
Samuel J. Little, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Little, was born at Farmersburg, Iowa April 5th 1978. After having received his education in the Farmersburg public school, he spent his entire life on the farm, being especially interested in the raising of dairy cattle.
On October 27th, 1915 he was united in marriage to Miss Odelia Otting of Garnavillo, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Bruce and Ada Mae, eleven and nine years respectively, who with their mother mourn the death of an affectionate husband and loving father. He also leaves the aged mother, Mrs. Lucinda Little and three sisters, Mina Dahlstrom, Belle Golke, and Kittie Johnson, other relatives, and a host of friends, who keenly feel the loss of a friend in need and a friend in deed.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and also served on the school board, of which he was a member at the time of his death.
Sam was a hard working and conscientious man, loved by all, always ready to extend a helping hand, and he will be greatly missed by the community.
Funeral services were held at the late home at one o’clock yesterday afternoon and interment was made in the Farmersburg cemetery with Rev. C. H. Franke of Elkader officiating. The usual Masonic services were also conducted at the grave.
He Is Not Dead
“You mourn because he’s passed beyond:
You grieve because you think him dead;
Take cheer from out this knowledge then;
He is not dead—just walking on ahead.
If he were dead as you have thought,
We, too, would mourn—for was he not our friend?
But know that to this earth below
The very finest souls God does not lend.
So dry your tears, we pray of you
And do not think of him as dead,
In time he’ll make you understand,
He is not dead—just walking on ahead.”CLAYTON COUNTY REGISTER
