JOHN H. WEHRKAMP

John H. Wehrkamp, life-long resident of Clayton County, Iowa, passed away at his home in Guttenberg on Sunday evening at 11:20 o’clock at the age of 71 years, nine months and 24 days, following a week’s illness. Mr. Wehrkamp had not been in the best of health for some time previous to his death, but had been able to be up and about until about a week ago.

Mr. Wehrkamp was born on a farm in Jefferson Township, Clayton County, Iowa, on May 4, 1862. On March 7, 1883, he was married in Garnavillo Township to Miss Fredericka Rueter. After their marriage, the couple settled on a farm in Read Township, where they resided for 29 years, then moving onto a farm in Garnavillo Township, where they lived until 10 years ago, when they came to Guttenberg to make their home.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Schulte of Read township; one son, Herman Wehrkamp of Elkader. Several brothers and sisters have preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. C. A. Jacobi at St. Paul’s United Lutheran Church in Guttenberg on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, with interment in the City Cemetery.
