Funeral services for Harry G. Knapp of Farmersburg, Iowa, were held on Saturday, October 1, 1977, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran, Farmersburg, with Pastor Karl E. Hansen officiating and Schultz Funeral Home, Monona, in charge of services.
Harry was born at Marquette, Iowa, on May 14, 1923, the son of Myron and Mary Kadlec Knapp and passed away at Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien on September 28, 1977. He was baptized as a child at McGregor Methodist Church and confirmed at St. John's in 1971, of which he was a member.
He grew up in McGregor, Iowa, and was graduated from McGregor High School in 1941. He served twenty active years in the U.S. Navy and ten years in Fleet Reserve. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, St. Olaf Legion Post #388, and an honorary member of the Farmersburg Fire Department. Upon retirement from the U.S. Navy he was employed by the Iowa Dept. of Social Services as a supervisor at Luster Heights.
Surgery for Astrocytoma brain tumors was performed at LaCrosse Lutheran in April of 1971 with subsequent surgery in February, 1972.
On July 9, 1948, he was married to Arlene Mueller of Farmersburg, who survives along with his children, Michael Knapp of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Cathy Risk of Iowa City, Iowa, his daughter-in-law, Mischel, son-in-law, Alan, and grandson, Troy Knapp. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Tayek, Prairie du Chien, and sisters, Deva Duggin, McGregor; Della Hultgren, Cedar Rapids; Erma Kinsley, McGregor, Donna Noggle, Prairie du Chien, Marie Colliver, Tahoe Paradise, Cal., step-sister, Florence Tayek, Calmar, and step-brother, Benj Tayek of Clinton.
Harry was preceded in death by his son, Mark; father, Myron; step-father, Ben Tayek; brothers, Elmer and Clifton; step-sister, Ruth, and step-brother, Harold.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Moody, Burl Hutchison, Donald Wagner, Merle Eggen, Earl "Spike" Olson, Bill Tielbar, Reuben Mueller and Bill Avery.
The organist was Mrs. James Walter; soloists, The Johnson Sisters and the St. John Adult Choir.
Military services were conducted at the F. & W. Cemetery at Farmersburg by the St. Olaf Legion Post #388 and the Pocket City Post of McGregor, Iowa.
