Carrie Olive Derr Knudtson, daughter of Ira and Inez Derr, was born January 27, 1901, at Garner, Iowa, the youngest of a family of three girls and a boy. She attended the Garner grade and high schools.

She was united in marriage to Earl Knudtson on April 21, 1921. They made their home in Mason City, Iowa, for most of the next thirty years, where her husband was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad.

Hers was a happy life with her enjoyment of her husband's hobbies of fishing and boating. Many of her leisure hours were spent at handiwork and sewing for others and included many quilts and braided rugs. She made many friends in the Mason City area.

In 1959 she and her husband moved to St. Olaf, where they lived in retirement. She is a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary and World War I Veterans Auxiliary, and is a life long member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge. She was a member of the Mason City Congregational Church. After moving to St. Olaf, they joined the Norway Lutheran Church.

Her closet relatives are now nieces and nephews in Iowa and California.
