Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 11, 1979 for Harold Christian Opsand, 89, of Elgin, at the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. The Rev. Keith Klemm officiated with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Opsand died Friday, Dec. 7, at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville. He had served on the board of directors of the Gunder Cheese Factory, the Elgin Co-op, and the Marion Telephone Company. He was an Iowa Master Farmer and for several years was the chairman of the Marion Lutheran Church Council and worship leader.

April 22, 1914, he married Gunille Wettleson at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. The couple had six children. Gunille preceded him in death Jan. 12, 1937.

October 23, 1943 he was married to Olga Bidne in Decorah. She died July 1966.

He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Alma) Hanson, Elgin; Mrs. Morris (Hildur) Amundson, Elgin; Mrs. Edward (Ruth) Edblad, Wonewock, Wis.; Mrs. Arthur (Norma) Amundson, Clermont; Mrs. Warren (Rosella) Burstrom, Reeport, Ill.; 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one brother, John, of Kalispell, Montana.
