MRS. HAROLD OPSAND PASSES AT HER HOME NEAR GUNDER

Mrs. Harold Opsand passed away on Tuesday morning, January 12, 1937, at seven o'clock from pneumonia.

Gunille Wettleson was born on the old Wettleson homestead in Marion township, Clayton county, Iowa, on April 13, 1893 and thus was at the time of her death aged 43 years, eight months and 30 days. She was the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Wettle Wettleson. When she was about two years old her parents purchased a farm in Grand Meadow township, where her father still resides. Her mother passed away in August 1903, when Gunille was ten years old. She attended school as long as possible. After she was confirmed household duties fell to her lot and she helped her father bring up the six other children.

On April 22, 1914, she was united in marriage to Harold Opsand. They started housekeeping on the old Peter Erickson farm in Grand Meadow township, later moving on the Simon Nelson farm, which they had purchased and where they lived happily for 22 years. Six children were born to this union, the first born, Lena, passing away March 24, 1915, when but two weeks old.

Mrs. Opsand was a faithful member of the Marion Lutheran church, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She devoted time and energy in the service of her church, especially in the Dorcas Society, the Ladies' Aid Society, of which she had served as president.

She leaves to mourn her departure beside her devoted husband, Harold Opsand, their five daughters, Alma, Hildur, Ruth, Norma and Rosella, all at home; also her father, Wettle Wettleson; one brother, Robert, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Christine Rypestol of this vicinity, Mrs. Martin Nelson of Clermont, Mrs. Arthur Solberg of Hawkeye, and Julia Wettleson at home; besides a host of other relatives and friends. One brother, Theodore, passed away August 3, 1918, of wounds received in service in France.

Mrs. Opsand always found time to take part in all matters that pertained to the betterment of the community, especially her church, and the happiness of her friends and loved ones.

Funeral services were held from the Marion Lutheran church at two o'clock on Friday afternoon, Jan. 15, conducted by Rev. S. J. Strandjord. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining.
