Iva Dorothea Oelke

Funeral services for Iva Dorothea Palas Oelke were held at 11 a. m., Friday, April 21, 1989 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona. Rev. Harold O. Ward officiated. Burial was in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg, IA. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.

Iva Oelke, daughter of Louie and Maria Lenth Palas was born April 22, 1908, in Farmersburg Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She died Wednesday, April 19, 1989 at Central Community Hospital, Elkader.

She was baptized Aug. 9, 1908 by Rev. Johannes Burkhard in Clayton Center and confirmed April 1, 1928 by Rev. William Kraft at Farmersburg Lutheran Church. She received her education in country school and Elkader High School.

On June 29, 1926 she married Gaylord Christopher Oelke at her parents' home. The couple had 2 sons. They farmed in the Farmersburg and Monona area until retiring in 1959. They moved into Monona in 1959.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Gaylord, who died July 9, 1982; a son, Edward, who died March 15, 1949; and 2 brothers, Luver and Harley Palas.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gaylord and Judith Oelke of Monona; one grandson, Christopher Oelke and one brother Syloan Palm of Berwyn, IL.

Pallbearers: Valdean, Clifford, LuVern and John H. Palas and Roger Mohning and Christopher Oelke.
