Richard Lee Orvis died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, June 12, 1990, at the age of 54. Funeral services were held Friday, June 15, 1990 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkader, Iowa. Rev. Jim Klosterboer officiated. Organist was Laurie Klosterboer, soloist was Chuck Lammers. Interment was in Norway Lutheran Cemetery rural St. Olaf, Iowa. Arrangements were by Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader, Iowa.
Richard Lee Orvis, son of Floyd and Grace (Bandow) Orvis, was born September 10, 1935 at St. Olaf, Iowa. He spent his earlier years in the St. Olaf area. He attended Norway Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He graduated from Monona High School and attended Luther College in Decorah for 2 years.
He operated White Star Oil in St. Olaf for a number of years. On June 8, 1955 he married Karen Lee Drahn at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. They had 2 daughters, Luanne and Brenda, and a son Brad. For the past 22 years he resided in Elkader where he worked as an insurance agent.
He is survived by his wife Karen; his 2 daughters, Luanne Hoskins of Waterloo, Brenda Rodas of Strawberry Point; his son, Brad of Modesto, CA; and 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Dean.
Casket bearers were: Joe Dougherty, Don Houg, Lanny Scheffert, Jim Miehe, Roger Tielbar and Dan Hanson.
