Mrs. Ida Olvis Services Held

Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Olvis, 85, of Farmersburg were held Tuesday morning, Dec. 12, at 10:30 o'clock at St. John Lutheran church in Farmersburg with Rev. R. H. Steege officiating.

The body lay in state at the church from 9:30 o'clock in the morning until the time of the services. Burial was in the Eno cemetery in Wagner cemetery (sic) [maybe should be township instead of cemetery?]

Mrs. Olvis suffered a stroke early Friday morning, Dec. 8. She was taken to the Elkader hospital where she died Saturday morning, Dec. 9, at 10 o'clock.

She was born the daughter of John and Lena, nee Stade, Heiden, May 24, 1882, in Read township, Clayton county. She was baptized by Rev. F. W. Seifert at Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center. She attended the public school of her community and religious school at Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center, where she was also confirmed by Rev. F. W. Seifert.

When she was 13 years old, she moved with her parents to a farm in Wagner township. In 1907 she moved with her mother, a brother, and a sister to Farmersburg. Later she left for North Dakota to be with relatives.

She was married to Sam Olvis at Bismarck, N. D., Nov. 30, 1915, by Rev. Strutz. Soon after their marriage they moved to Hazen, N. D., where they lived for 10 years. In 1925 they moved to Iowa, first living in Luana for 19 years and then in 1944 moving to Farmersburg, where she continued to live until her death. Her husband died Aug. 2, 1947.

She was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran church at Farmersburg and a member of St. John Lutheran Church Women and of Martha circle. She was also a 50-year member of the Royal Neighbors of America.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and two brothers.

Surviving are three nieces and two nephews.

Pallbearers were: Lloyd Amundson, Arthur Wilker, Louis Breitsprecher, Glen Walter, Leigh Mathews, and Robert Koehn.
