Elkader Youth Was Serving In FrancePvt. Orrin F. Kuehl, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kuehl, was reported killed in action, Oct. 6, somewhere in France. Word of their son's death was received from the War department by Mr. and Mrs. Kuehl,, Saturday

Services Held Sunday For Army PrivateMemorial services for Prvt. Orrin F. Kuehl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kuehl, were held at the Evangelical and Reformed church here Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Paul Kitterer officiating. Harold Downey, substituting for Fern Sharp, commander of the Lemka-Stendel post, American Legion presented the United States flag to Mrs. Kuehl and Walter Sauer sounded taps. Legionaires attended in a body. A quartet composed of Dale Tieden, Herbert T. Hurley, H.K. Roggensack and William Allen, furnished special music.
Private Kuehl was born in Elkader, July 1, 1920. He attended rural schools and graduated from Elkader High School in 1937. Until he entered the service, he assisted his father on the farm. He volunteered for service and left Elkader, Feb. 14, 1944, received his basic training at Fort McClellan, Ala., and was later transferred to Fort Meade, Md., from where he was sent overseas in July. He was stationed in Italy and later tranferred to a special service force in France where he was killed Oct. 6.
Private Kuehl is survived by his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Woods, Elkader; Myrna Mae, Long Beach, Calif.; Lois Ann at home and three brothers, Harold, Chicago; Howard and Donald at home; his grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Tangeman and grandfather, Joe Kuehl.
Out of town relatives and friends who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schumann of Gretna, Neb., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kuehl and Harold Jr. of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Alan Moritz of Des Moines; Mrs. Helene Abbot of Rock Island; Mr. and Mrs. George Kuehl, Merlin and Gene; Mr. and Mrs. Les Himebaugh, Milton & Evelyn Harms and Edna and Wilbur Hinrichs of Scotch Grove; Will Hagensick, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Becker and daughter Marie, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McMillin, Verni Tangeman and Mr. and Mrs. Will Kaiser of McGregor; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Voelker and Gerald of Postville; Mrs. Bertha Gray of Monona; Mr. and Mrs, Art Mohrman of St. Olaf; and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Schumacher of Guttenberg.
