CHARLES HENKES

The funeral service of Charles Henkes, who died last Friday (22 Apr 1932) in the Canora hospital, was held on Monday afternoon in the United Church, Canora. The service was conducted by Rev. M.L. Long, of Macrorie, Sask. The attendance included friends from every walk of life, who came to pay their respects.

Rev. Long gave a brief history of the life of Mr. Henkes, who was born in 1858 at Monona, Iowa. He was married in 1886 to Miss Clara Decker of Grove Lake, Minn. and took up farming in Pope County, Minn. In 1906 he came with his family to Canora and settled on the farm 2 1/2 miles northeast of town, where he resided since. For the past two years he had not been in very good health and the end was not unexpected. He passed peacefully away on Friday morning, April 22nd.
Mr. Henkes was an old timer of Canora district, well known and highly respected. He is survived by his widow; six sons, Delbert of Nut Mountain, Sask. John and Arthur of Canora, Jesse and Henry of Lagrange Ill; and Clarence of Bentley, Alta; two daughters, Mrs. S. Booth of College Place, Washington USA; Mildred of Canora; and one adopted daughter Gladys, of Venice, California, USA; one brother Mel, of Monona, Iowa, and four sisters, Mrs. Helen Koth and Mrs. Kate Koth of Monona; Mrs. L. Sebastian of Cresco, Iowa and Mrs. Mina Baughman, of Los Angeles California. Relatives from outside points present at the funeral were Delbert Henkes of Nut Mountain and Mrs. Booth of College Place.
The pall bearers were R.J. Betts, J.F.Paul Barschel, J.D. Robertson, D. Gibney, J.D. Lageson and J.B. McIntosh. Interment took place in the Canora cemetery.
