OBITUARY
Mrs. Leonard Sebastian
Martha Henkes was born near Monona, Ia., Jan. 14, 1862. As she grew up she attended regularly the Evangelical Sunday school which was not far from where she lived.
She was married to Leonard Sebastian on March 8, 1887, and lived on a farm until they moved to Howard county in 1902. They were on a farm by Davis Corners for six years and then moved to Vernon Springs where they lived for four years, coming from there to Cresco in 1912, where they had lived since.
Two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Sebastian celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, March 8, 1937.
Mrs. Sebastian passed away Feb. 21, following an illness of over a year during most of which she was confined to her bed. She is survived by her husband and two children Leslie Sebastian and Cora Craft both of Cresco. Three children died in infancy. She also leaves ten grandchildren. There is also her brother, Melvin Henkes of Cresco, and three sisters, Mrs. Mina Baughman of Los Angeles, Mrs. Catherine Koth and Mrs. Helen Koth of Monona, Iowa.Mrs. Sebastian was a good woman, patient in suffering, kind and pleasant in all her ways, a living wife and mother who was always concerned for the spirtual welfare of her children.
Funeral services were held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Bradley funeral home with burial at New Oregon cemetery. Rev. A.D. Phelps, pastor of the Congregational church, officiated.Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Catherine Koth, Mrs. John Reidel, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rowland, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Koth, Mrs. Vern Koth, Roy Koth, Frank Jarms all of Monona, Mr. and Mrs. George Henkes, Wm. Moon, Ira Moon and Mary Walters of Farmersburg, Mr. and Mrs Fred Winders of Dubuque, Mrs. Frank Barton of Marquette and Mrs. Ruth Linrooth of Monona. Mrs. Linrooth is caring for Mrs. Helen Koth, sister of Mrs. Sebastian.
Six of Mrs. Sebastian's grandsons served as pallbearers, Donald and Melvin Sebastian, Harold, Kenneth, Harley and Urban Craft.
