Margaret Mae (Collins) Peirce
Margaret Mae (Collins) Peirce was born Jan. 1, 1924 in Luana, Iowa, to parents Robert and Minnie (Krambeer) Collins. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Luana. She received her education at the Luana Consolidated School, graduating in 1941. She was employed at the Doerring grocery store until the mid 1940s.
She was married to Lt. Rex Hinman, who was in the Navy. They lived in Boston, Key West, Hawaii, Arlington and San Diego. She was employed by Chama Corporation as a computer programmer.
In 1984 she was married to James Champlin Pierce III (sic), who was an accountant and a computer programmer.
Margaret had been a member of the United Methodist Church, Luana, Iowa and Rolando Methodist Church in San Diego, where she taught Sunday School. Her interests were gardening, bicycling, and enjoying the ocean beach. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
Margaret died Nov. 28, 1991 at Mercy Hospital, San Diego. She was 67. Her body was cremated and buried at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery. Memorial services were held at St. Peter by the Sea Lutheran Church on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1992 at 11 a.m. Services were conducted by the Rev. Dale S. Bringman.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Eugene (Rip) Collins, and sister-in-law Joyce Collins.
She will be sadly missed by her husband James of San Diego; daughter Bonnie (Jim) Mendenhall of Palomar Mountain, California; son Bruce Hinman and grandson Michael of Encinitas, California; stepson James Peirce IV and his wife, and David Peirce; brothers Robert (Shirley) Collins of Luana, Carlton Collins of Postville; sister-in-law Jeanne Collins of Monona, and her nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a good friend to many, gave herself unstintingly to others, a caring person, whose children remember her fondly. Grandson Michael said she was very nice, and, among other things, always kept a cookie jar full of his favorites.
