Funeral services are being held this afternoon, 2:00 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana for John E. Perkins, 57, who passed away at Independence following an illness of several years. The Rev. L. W. Reuther, pastor of St. John's, will be in charge of the rites; burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery in Luana.
Johnny Elmer Perkins, son of Walter Perkins and Lydia Brink Perkins, was born April 18, 1904 in Marshalltown, Iowa. In infancy he was baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown and on June 7, 1960 he was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran in Luana. The deceased spent the years of his childhood and youth in Marshalltown. On May 15, 1935 he was married to Josie Ferkin to which union four children were born.
In 1915 he moved from Marshalltown to Hardin, Iowa and in 1956 he moved from Hardin to Luana. Here he worked for the Farmers Commission Company and for six years drove a school bus.
The deceased usually enjoyed good health but in the past two years he has spent time in various hospitals. On Sunday, December 17, 8:30 a.m., he passed away at Independence, having attained the age of 57 years, seven months, and 29 days.
His father preceded him in death. He is survived by his widow; his mother, Mrs. Lydia Bond of Hardin; two sons, Jackie Lee of Fairview, Iowa and Larry Dean of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Fett and Miss JoAnn Perkins, Luana; and six grandchildren.
