Funeral services for Julia Peterson, 90, were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 11 at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. The Rev. Keith Klemm officiated. Burial was in the Marion Lutheran Cemetery. Muehlethaler's Funeral Home, Elgin, was in charge of arrangements.
Julia Peterson, the daughter of Carl and Betsy (Halstenson) Christianson, was born April 17, 1894 in rural St. Olaf. She died June 8, 1984 at her daughter's home in rural Postville.
Julia was baptized and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church in rural St. Olaf. She grew up in the St. Olaf area attending rural schools there.
She married Peter K. Peterson June 24, 1914 in her parents home. They were the parents of two daughters.
They lived in Wauzeka, WI for six years after their marriage. They then moved to the Gunder area where they made their home until her husband's death in 1969. She moved to Elgin in 1974 and has lived at her daughter's since 1983 due to illness.
She continued to be active in the Marion Lutheran Church as long as her health permitted. Other activities she was involved in included gardening, care for flowers and the Willing Workers Quilting Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter; four brothers, Thomas, Henry, Knute and Edwin; two sisters, Nellie Landsgard and Annie in infancy; two infant grandsons and two infant great grandsons.
Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Bernice) Anderson and Mrs. Harold (Gladys) Halverson; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Alma Gunderson and Mrs. Gunda Seeley.
