Mabel Peterson
Funeral services for Mabel Peterson were held at the Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf, with Pastor Keith Klemm officiating. Soloist was Don Wold. Pallbearers were Larry Ihde, Kevin Ihde, Randy Hough, Craig Embretson, Lee Embretson and Alvin Johnson.
Mabel Amanda Peterson was born January 7, 1908, the daughter of Lars and Thonetta (Kittleson) Bergan in Hancock County near Forest City, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Ellington Church, now known as Pilot Knob Lutheran Church, near Forest City. She received her education in the rural schools of Hancock County.
On September 5, 1931, she was united in marriage to Thomas Peterson of St. Olaf at the St. Olaf Parsonage. They were active members of the Norway Lutheran Church. Mabel was active in the ALCW and served a term as Circle chairman. She has also been active in the American Legion Auxiliary and in the local Senior Citizens' Organization.
She died December 29, 1979, at the Elkader Care Center at the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 9 days.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Thomas, on January 13, 1975; six brothers, Bill, Clarence, Oscar, Ted, Bert and Louis; an infant son, Maynard; and a grandson, Arlyn.
She is survived by two sons, Harold of Farmersburg, and Wayne of St. Olaf; two daughters, Mavis and Ruth of Strawberry Point; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Balgaard of Evanville, Minn., and Ida Smith of Minneapolis, Minn.; and one brother, Lloyd Bergan of Mason City, Iowa.
