Marian K. Sheffert, 97, of Oak Lawn IL, formerly of Edgewood, Iowa, died Jan. 30, 2009, at the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, following a short illness. Celebration of Life services were held at 11 a.. Monday, Feb. 2, at the Wesleyan Community Church, 8844 S. Austin Ave. Oak Lawn The Rev. Steven R. Wright officiated. Friends could call from 9 to 11 a.m at the church. Interment will be at a later date at the Monona city cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
Marian Sheffert was born near Monona on March 21, 1911, and was the only child of John and Abbie (Koth) Reidel, who were descended from Clayton County, Iowa, German pioneer farmers.
She graduated from Monona Iowa High School in 1928 and then went on to graduate from the Prairie du Chien, Wis. Sanitarium Hospital as a nurse in 1931.
She was united in marriage to Orlando F. Sheffert at Nashua, Iowa, on Aug. 16, 1933. Marian and Orlando settled in Edgewood and first operated the Strand Theater and then the Strand Cafe, followed by various other business adventures over the years.
She lived a full life and enjoyed gardening, bridge, dancing and her friends, but was especially devoted to her children and grandchildren and closely followed the developments in their lives.

She was an 80-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and active in the Methodist Church in Edgewood. During WWII and later she participated in Red Cross activities.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her three children: daughter, Kay (William) Booth of Oak Lawn, and sons Gary (Gaye) Sheffert of Arlington Heights IL and Lary (Jody) Sheffert of Branson MO. She is also survived by eight grandchilden: Sharon (Elwood) Stanley of Assumption, IL; Lary (Sonya) Sheffert of Mt. Pleasant MI, Kathryn (Daniel) Lingevitch of Spartanburg SC, David (Bridget) Sheffert of Park Ridge IL, Tammy (Brad) Albaugh of Marion IA, Sandra (Roman) Sawczak of Dyer IN, Kristin (Mark)Hodnett of Wheeling IL and William Booth of Chicago, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include Betty Sheffert and Lisa Booth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orlando F Sheffert, and grandchildren Karen Sheffert, Kandy Sandhaen and Steven Booth, and great-grand daughter Lana Sandhagen.
