Charlotte Jean Montour

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on July 20, 2004 at the Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader, Iowa, with interment at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor, Iowa for Charlotte Jean Montour, 82, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of St. Olaf, who died Friday, July 16, 2004, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, following a brief illness.

Charlotte was born December 20, 1921, in Alden, Iowa to Wayne and Cecile (Palmer) Hunter.

Charlotte graduated from Littleport High School and was united in marriage to Gilbert E. Montour on February 6, 1942. Two children, Robert and Greg, were born to this union. They lived in various places throughout their married life due to Gilbert’s military career. They retired to St. Olaf in 1971.

She was an active member of Norway Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, reading, Bridge Club and crossword puzzles. She will be remembered as one who loved to visit and be with people.

Her husband Gilbert preceded her in death in 1995. For the past five years, Charlotte has lived with her son Robert in Des Moines.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Montour and Greg (Jan) Montour, all of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Garrett and Grant; three great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Geoffrey and Drake; a sister, Dorothy (Lowell) Zapf, of Littleport, Iowa and a brother, Kenneth (Rosina) Hunter, of Estherville. Her parents and her husband preceded in death.
