Fall Fatal to Anton Wille At Home Here
Anton Wille, aged 76, a long-time resident of Clayton County, died at his home in Guttenberg Sunday evening at 8:45 o'clock. Funeral services
were held Wednesday morning at nine o'clock, Rev. J.A. Dupont officiating at the requiem mass. Burial was made in Mt. Olivet.
Mr. Wille had been in poor health for several years but was able to walk around and appeared to be standing the heat and his advancing years well, until Saturday afternoon when he fell on the sidewalk in front of his home. Several ribs were fractured and he suffered internal injuries which caused his death Sunday evening.
Mr. Wille was born in Balzers, Lichtenstein, Europe, on Feb. 2, 1858 and came to America when a youth of twenty-one, settling at Dubuque. He had learned the trade of stone mason in the old country and worked at that and as brickmason while in Dubuque where he remained for a number of years. There he was married to Miss Veronica Ittensohn in 1884, on Oct. 8. Later they moved to Clayton county, living at Elkader, and also on a farm in Clayton township. Mr. Wille continued at his trade until some years ago when he retired and moved to Guttenberg where they have since lived. He is survived by his widow, nine children, Teresa at home, Mrs. John Wendler of Lansing, Anton J., Joseph J. and Leo of Clayton township, William J. of Garnavillo, John J. of Minneapolis, Sister Veronique of Sparta, Wis., and Sister Veronita of LaCrosse, the latter two members of the Franciscan Order of Perpetual Adoration. Both nuns were at their Father's bedside when the end came. Three other children preceded Mr. Wille in death. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, one brother, Felix of Akron, Ohio, and one half-sister Cresinthia Wolfgang of Lichtenstein. Mr. Wille had been a faithful member of the Catholic church all his life, giving a splendid example of catholic manhood to his family and friends. His family have the sympathy of the community in their loss.
He was a member of the St. Aloysius society and the Sacred Heart League.
His five sons and his son-in-law, John Wendler, acted as casketbearers.------------------------------------
