Passing Away of Old Resident

Mrs. Katherine Schute dies Friday after a short illness.

Mrs. Katherine Anna Schute, one of Guttenberg's most highly respected residents, passed away at her home in the south part of town Friday, June 10 after a week's illness caused by heart trouble. Deceased passed life's seventy-fifth milestone, June 1st and was therefore at the time of death 75 years and 9 days. She had been enjoying her usual good health up until a week before and her death came as a surprise to the many friends unaware of her illness.
Deceased was a native of Germany and was born at Bueckette June 1, 1831. In company with her two sisters, Anna and Mary, the former at marriage becoming Mrs. Anna Frecks and now living at Remsen, and the latter becoming Mrs. Mary Lueck, now deceased, left the home in Germany for America, arriving here in 1862, coming directly to Guttenberg the same year. Two years after her arrival her, June 6, 1864, she was united in marriage to Lucas Schute. Eight children were born to them, two of whom died in childhood, and one son, John, at the age of 28 years. The husband and father passed away nine years ago. The surviving children are four sons and one daughter, Ben, Henry E., Herman and Mrs. Lizzie Thome of Guttenberg and Joseph of Bellevue. Deceased also leaves one sister, Mrs Anna Frericks, who resides at Remsen.
Mrs Schute was a noble, christian woman, ever ready to assist one in need or do a kindness by action or word. Her large circle of friends in Guttenberg deeply regret her demise. She was a close adherent of the Catholic faith throughout life and was a member of St. Ann Society.
The funeral was held Monday morning with services at St. Mary's Church, conducted by Rev. J.H. Brinkman. Interment was made in St. Mary's Cemetary. The pallbearers were Gottfried Fassbinder, Gus Pfiffner, Geo Mohrhauser, Henry Fassbinder, A.C. Keppler and Franz Stoetller.
