Luella Josephine Dettmann

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on June 12, 2004 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa with interment in the East Side Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa. Leonard Funeral Home, of Monona, was in charge of arrangements.

Luella Josephine Dettmann, 86, Monona died Monday, June 7, 2004, at the Elkader Care Center, Elkader, following a brief illness.

Luella was born on December 7, 1917 in rural St. Olaf to John and Louise (Smerud) Larson. Luella was baptized and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf, Iowa. She attended country schools through eighth grade.

She was united in marriage to Aaron Tieden on May 5, 1937 at the Norway Lutheran Church. He died on September 25, 1962. On June 28, 1965, she married Myron Dettmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, and he died on October 29, 1987.

Luella helped on the farm and worked at a dentist office in Monona for a few years. She was a homemaker who loved spending time with family and friends, sewing, cooking, golfing, crocheting, ceramics and her flowers.

Survivors include her four children, Sandra (Dean) Refle, Elkader, John Tieden (special friend Kay Poole), West Union, Julie (Larry) Kurth, Farmersburg, Nancy (Peter) Clemens, Lake Forest, IL; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Warren (Delpha Mae) Larson, Cedar Rapids; one sister, Eileen Heiden, Elkader; two sisters-in-law, Gustava Larson, Cedar Rapids, Nora Larson, McGregor; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two brothers, Arnold Larson and Glen Larson and one son, Kenneth Tieden on March 15, 1946.
