From Postville (IA) Review on 21 Jul 1905 reported:

"A Dubuque Times special tells that at McGregor Tuesday morning CHARLES Cornish met his death by drowning in the Mississippi river near the ferry dock, a distance of about 25 feet from the main land. The boy, who was employed at Matt's livery, had taken two horses into the water, when a sudden lunge of one of the horses he was riding threw him backward into the river. Parties immediately commenced dragging for the body and about a half hour later it was raised on clam hooks. The face bore a mark, presumably from a
kick by the horse. The boy was about 19 years old and the mainstay of a large family."
