Mildred Arlene Johannningmeier
Mildred Arlene Johanningmeier, daughter of John and Myrtle (Winters) Carter, was born August 11, 1927 at Waukon, IA, Allamakee County. She was baptized September 23, 1943 at the Methodist Church in Monona, and confirmed December 13, 1959 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona.
Mildred was united in marriage to Willis Johanningmeier on July 4, 1959 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Her hobbies included ceramics, bowling, needlework, fishing and traveling. She was a loving wife and mother. They moved to their present home in Waukon in 1991.
Mildred died Sunday, February 21, 1999 at the Tucson Medical Center Hospice, Tucson, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lester and Milton Carter, and a sister, Mary Cordon.
Survivors include her husband, Willis; five sons, Duane Johanningmeier of Kansasville, WI, Dean (Barb) Johanningmeier of Cross Plains, WI, William (Salli) Johanningmeier of Monona, IA, Dennis (Candy) Schlitter of Monona, IA, and Robert (Lisa) Johanningmeier of Holland, IA; five daughters, Sharon (Don) Bruening of Monona, IA, JoAnn (John) Eadie of Cedar Rapids, IA, Elaine (Kerry) Melcher of Monona, IA, Judy (Dale) Goeke of Waverly, IA, and Susan (Brian) Murphy of Waukon, IA; 30 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; two brothers, Leo (Kay) Carter of Waukon, IA and Roy Carter of Klamath Falls, OR, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, February 25, 1999, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. Pastors Bill and Kristine Schroeder officiated. Pallbearers were grandson: Jeff, Josh, and Boyd Johanningmeier, Loren Lembke, Todd Eadie, Quint Goeke, Kerry Melcher II, Shawn Murphy and Jeffrey Downing. Burial was in the Smithfield Cemetery, rural Luana, Ia. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
