Funeral services were held, Monday morning, June 21, from St. Mary's Catholic church for Miss Coletta McDermott, 69, who passed away, Friday evening, at Mercy hospital, Oelwein, following a stroke. Burial was in the Sacred Heart cemetery at Cox Creek, the Rev. P.J. Boyle officiating.
She was born, July 28, 1874, in Clayton county, Iowa, the daughter of the late James J. and Julia (Ferry) McDermott. She received her schooling in Elkader public school, after which she taught for several years in the rural schools of this vicinity, later moving to South Dakota, where she homesteaded and continued to teach. She returned to Iowa, when her mother became aged and needed care and has since lived in this vicinity.
Surviving are two brothers, Emmet of Marian, Iowa [sic Marion, Iowa], and Tommy of the state of Arizona, and one sister, Mrs. Alice Johnson from the state of Navada. [sic Nevada]
