Clermont (Special) - Gunhild Halstenson, daughter of Gro and Syvert Halstenson, was born in Marion township, Clayton Co., on January 21, 1865, and died January 17, 1946, at the home of Mrs. Helen Asmundson at Clermont at the age of eighty years, eleven months and twenty-six days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Julia Peterson of Brainard, Minn., and numerous nieces and nephews. Seven brothers and sisters preceeded her in death. They were: Rachel, wife of Eric Gunderson of St. Ansgar; Celia, wife of Jacob Groth of St. Ansgar; Albert of Elkader; Halsten of Clermont; Carl of Elgin, and Nils who died at an early age. After the death of her parents she went to live with her sister, Mrs. Julia Peterson, at Battle Lake, Minn. There she helped with the care of her sister's children and her association with them was one of her treasured memories. Later she spent some time in St. Ansgar with her two sisters and their families. Finally her brother Halsten and she came to Clermont and made their home together. After Halsten's death she lived with various people in Clermont and for the last years, has made her home with her old friend and neighbor, Mrs. Osmundson. A host of relatives and friends will always remember Nellie Halstenson as one who walked in the ways of unassuming kindness, love and peace.
