Bernhard Theodore Palas, son of Ben and Louise (Glawe) Palas, was born December 29, 1914, in Clayton County, Iowa. While growing up Bernhard attended rural Luana Schools. On January 29, 1936 Bernhard was united in marriage to Lorene Marie Knuth at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa.

Bernhard spent his life farming and was employed by Quaker Oats Company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for 20 years. He retired in 1977 and moved to Luana, Iowa. In July of 1990 he moved to Apache Junction, Arizona, and in July of 1997 he and Lorene located in Tipton, Iowa.

Bernhard is survived by his wife, Lorene Palas of Tipton, Iowa; three daughters, LaVonne Deerberg and husband Wayne of Tipton, Iowa; Connie Bencke of Boulder, Colorado; Marcia Starr and husband Roger of Houston, Texas; a son, Kenneth Palas and wife Mary of Niwot, Colorado; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Thiese of Decorah, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Louise Palas; a brother-in-law, Alfred Thiese; and in-laws, Walter and Laura Knuth.
