He attended school at Mecklenberg rural school where John and Elvera have made their home for the past fifteen years. He was baptized September 18, 1927, and confirmed March of 1948 by Rev. Kitterer.

Upon his return home, John farmed in the St. Olaf area until 1977. He also worked for Everett Marmann at the Shell Station for a number of years. In 1980 John underwent bypass heart surgery in Dubuque. For the past two years he has been employed at the Elkader Wire & Display factory. John died Sunday, November 10, 1991, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader after sudden heart failure at his home.
