Haltmeyer, Eugene Ernest 'Gene' 1929 - 1985

Eugene Haltmeyer, 55, died July 31, 1985, at his home near Postville, Iowa. Services were Friday at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. The Reverend Terrance Hennesy officiated and the Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Byron Schultz, Gilbert Livingood. Cloy Schultz, Elden Lenth, Darwin Fritz and LaVern Johnson.

Eugene Ernest Haltmeyer, son of Ervin and Ernestine. (Christen) Haltmeyer, was born August 2, 1929, at McGregor, Iowa. He lived in Farmersburg until the age of 3, when the family moved to the farm near Postville. He graduated from Postville High School in 1947 and farmed with his father until 1950.

December 2, 1950, he married Betty C. Engen at Decorah. They had 4 children. They farmed near Postville.

From 1958 until 1962, he was employed as a foreman at Hygrade. Haltmeyer was the manager and co-owner of Haltmeyer Trucking from 1982 to the present and was also a DeKalb seed corn dealer from 1978 to 1985.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ervin; a son, Wayne; and two brothers, Gary and Mark.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; a son, Ronald of Postville; two daughters, Beverly (Mrs. Jeffry Sears) of Madison, Wisconsin; and Susan (Mrs. Max Morrison) of Traer, Iowa; his mother, Mrs. Ernestine Haltmeyer of Postville; two sisters, JoAnn (Mrs. Kenneth Peake) of Waukon, Iowa; and Chris (Mrs. Dennis Soride) of Postville; 2 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.

Gene was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, an Honorary Chapter Farmer of the FFA, an ASCS committe man and a member of the Postville Booster Club.
