J.Q. Adams died at his home near this place very suddenly Monday afternoon. He had appeared to be in his usual health and as cheerful as was his custom. He had eaten a hearty dinner and then sat down to read the newspaper. He was in cheerful spirits and as he read and talked with his members of his family. He was silent for perhaps a couple of minutes and during this brief interval; he passed away to that land from which no traveler returns.

John Q. was born at Erie. Pa.; October 23, 1833.
He was married to Miss Rosa Hill March 17, 1866 and came to Iowa in 1868. In 1884 he moved to McGregor, where he has resided ever since. Five children were born to this union; four sons and one daughter to mourn his death. They are George,
Chris, of McGregor and Lensford Adams of Clayton and Mrs. R.C. Storm of Davenport.

Mr. Adams was well and favorably known by the larger part of the residents of McGregor and the adjoining community. He was always cheerful and ready to pass a little of his cheer along. He was a kind husband and father, a true friend, an ideal neighbor and his sudden death has brought sorrow to avery large circle of acquaintances and friends, by whom he will be long and sincerely mourned.

The funeral service was held at the Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. C.A. Peddicord. Burial will be made in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Transcruber notes~~Thanks for taking in my great grandfather Lensford Ellis and raising him as your own.I do not know where he is buried at as he deserted his family of 3 children and they were put up for adoption at Ottumwa, Iowa.Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the missing link in the Adams family.

1. Elsie Mabel
2. Lensford Ellis Adams (adopted by Sellwood fam.)
3. Charles
