EUGENE FRANCIS COLLINS

Eugene (Rip) Francis Collins died Friday, April 5 at his home in Monona. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 9, 1991 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana. Rev. Ted Ager officiated. Organist was Helmuth Landt. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born July 23, 1922. His parents were Robert and Minnie Krambeer Collins. He was baptized Dec. 10, 1922 at the Methodist Church in Luana by Rev. J. B. Schuman and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana by Rev. Paul Adix on March 17, 1948. He received his education in Luana Consolidated school graduating in 1939 and attended college in Elkader.

On Feb. 10, 1941 he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and served with the second Marine Division in the Pacific theatre during WW II.

He married Jeanne Dettmann on Jan. 28, 1949 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul W. Adix officiating. The couple had 2 children.

He worked at the Luana Commission Company and owned a milk route until Luana creamer went to bulk milk. He worked for U. S. Feeds in Luana until he retired in 1985.

He was a member of the Leslie H. Smith American Legion Post 519 and served as commander, vice commander, adjutant and finance officer of the post. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Luana fire department and served several years on the Luana town Council.

Preceding him in death were his parents and mother-in-law, Mrs. Alvin Dettmann.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanne; sons, Rick Collins, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and Craig Collins, Superior, WI; a grandson and two granddaughters; two brothers, Carlton Collins, Postville and Robert Collins, Luana, a sister, Mae Peirce, San Diego, CA, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Rick and Craig Collins, Carlton and Joyce Collins, Robert and Shirley Collins and Julius and Joyce Dettmann.

Honorary pallbearers: Jan Bruns, Dale Linderbaum, Larry Riveland, Kevin and Chris Nuehring and Marlyn and Dorothy Nuehring.
