Funeral services for Mrs. T.S. [Thadeus Stephen] Egbert, 89, were held at the Monona City cemetery, Monday afternoon, Apr. 27, with the Eastern Star ritual and Rev. A.W. Ebert officiating.She had been in excellent health through her eighty-ninth birthday anniversary, but suffered a stroke at her daughters, Mrs. E.R. Greenfield in Miami, Fla., and died April 22.
Commemorative services were held in Miami, where she had spend the winters for the last 16 years, by Rev. W.R. Lesser, pastor of her church there.
Mrs. Egbert has made her home since 1933 with her daughter, Mrs. C.O. Blount in Forest Hills, N.Y., and divided her time between her two daughters.As Nellie, she was born the daughter of William W. and Jessie Jane Wellman, Feb. 22, 1870, in Monona and lived here until 1912, when she moved to Cedar Falls, living there until 1933.
She was married to Thaddeus Stephen Egbert, Oct. 12, 1893. Two daughters Jane Ruth and Dorothy, were born to them.
Active in many organizations, she was a member of the Congregational church and Woman’s Relief corps of the G.A.R. A past worthy matron of the Monona chapter of the Eastern Star, she was awarded Iowa honorary life membership after 50 years of consecutive membership.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jessie; two brothers, Dean and Freddie; and by her husband.
Surviving are her two daughters.
A gentle woman of sterling character, her faith and steadfastness were exemplified by her courage and fortitude.
Pallbearers were: G.F. Fox, F.J. Peglow, Arthur Kaiser, Lloyd Brownson and F.R. Bothel.
