The Death of Mrs. Wyatt
Mrs. Lucinda Egbert Wyatt, was born near South Bend, Indiana, May 20th, 1861. Died at Monona at 12 a.m., March 2, 1909.
With her parents, the late Mr. And Mrs. Daniel Egbert, she came to Monona in 1864. Here she was educated and reared to womanhood. She early united with the M.E. church and all through life was an earnest consistent Christian.
On Thanksgiving evening in 1891 she was united in marriage to Rev. Harry F. Wyatt, a member of the Upper Iowa Conference and then Pastor of the M.E. church at Luana and now pastor of the McGregor church. Two children, with her husband, mourn her passing to the Master’s fold.
Mrs. Wyatt was a woman gifted with a strong personality, one who possessed the friendliness of all whom she came in contact. The old friends and neighbors of the family have only words of praise for Mrs. Wyatt, endowed with many excellent traits of character, her life is as a beacon light, sending forth its brightest rays upon the communities in which she shared in the ministerial labors of her husband. A good true christian woman, a dutiful wife, an indulgent mother, a kind neighbor, has passed over the border, at rest with Him she so faithfully served. The separation from all earthly ties, while it brings sorrow to a mourning family and a host of true friends, is indeed her gain, the fulfilment of the promises of he Lord and Master.
Mrs. Wyatt came to Monona to assist in the care of her brother, the late Thadeus Egbert, and on the evening following his death, Feb. 20th, she was taken suddenly ill. A combination of troubles, engendered with an attack of pneumonia, baffled the best energies of medical skill, and at the midnight hour on the 2nd inst. Mrs. Wyatt passed peacefully into that sleep that knows no wakening. Coming to the bedside of a stricken brother, fully intent on administering to his care, suddenly seized in the violence of acute threatening, she is deprived of her rightful place at his bier and within a few days follows the departed brother to an eternal rest, within the Gates Ajar.
The funeral takes place to-morrow, (Friday) at the M.E. Church, at 2:30 p.m., Rev. J.B. Bird in charge. Rev. J.C. Magee, of Fayette, an old friend of the family, will deliver the funeral address.
Undoubtedly there will be many present from McGregor, Luana, Strawberry Point, Calmar and other places near by, where Mr. And Mrs. Wyatt have so acceptably served the charges of the church.
