OBITUARY OF FRED KOTH

For many months our prayers, our intrests, and our sympathies have gone out to the Fred Koth home because of the severe illness and suffering of Mr. Fred Koth. He put up a hard fight for his health and everything that could possibly be done resorted to in order to bring back his health. But it seemed all of no avail. But he leaves us a legacy far richer than silver or gold,--beautiful home associations, memories of kindness and a host of friends.

Fred Koth was born near Farmersburg, Iowa, April 20th 1866. And in the vicinity of Farmersburg and McGregor he grew to manhood. Later he came into the vicinity of Monona. Here he started the building of his home ties together with his companion and helpmate.

He was united in marriage to Miss Cathrine Henkes on March the 15th, 1888. To this very happy union were born two children, Mrs. Abbie Reidel, of Monona and Harry Koth, of Prairie du Chien Wisconsin. For a number of years they were located on various farms southwest of Monona. The last few years they had their home in Luana where his work was finished.

Mr. Koth was a man who was quiet and went about his work with uprightness and integrity and honor. His neighbors speak of him as a man who was held in highest esteem and respect. He was one of those kind-hearted men with a sunny smile and with a ready laughter and with contageous tenderness, and with a hand claslp that somehow made you feel that the world was more congenial than you thought.

He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Chuurch, and the memory of his life and the sincerity of his convictions and his fellowship in all that is true shall abide as an abiding inspiration and an incentive to all with whom he associated.

He liveth long who liveth well!

All else is being thrown away;

He liveth longest, who can tell

Of true things truly done each day.

Mr. Koth quietly passed away last Thursday, September 17th, 1925 having reached the age of 59 years 4 months and 17 days.

He is being survived by his bereaved wife and life's companion Mrs. Cathrine Koth, his daughter Mrs. Abbie Reidel and his son Harry Koth, as well as two brothers: Herman Koth, of Monona, Henry Koth of Vancouver, British Columbia, and two sisters: Mrs. Percy Morton of San Francisco, California, and Mrs. Emma Leonard, also of San Francisco, and two grand children, as well as many other relatives and a great host of friends.
The funeral services were held from the Methodist Church, Monona conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.B. Ackman, Sunday afternoon, September 20th. A very large crowd was in attendance. His body was laid to rest in the city cemetery.
